RISE UP AND EAT

COMMUNION DAY MESSAGE AT ENGLISH ASSEMBLY

THEME: *RISE UP AND EAT*
TEXT: 1KINGS 19:6-8

Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, "Arise and eat." 6 Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again. 7 And the angel of the LORD came back the second time, and touched him, and said, "Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you." 8 So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God.
 
INTRODUCTION
Elijah the great prophet of God was running away for dear life. This was after the Lord had used him to accomplish the greatest feat in his ministry... after killing all the prophets of Baal and praying for the miraculous rains.

What happened? Jezebel had threatened revenge upon her prophets...

WHEN A MAN OF GOD IS DEPRESSED
What can God do to revive depressed Elijah? Surely not by preaching, prayer nor miracles.. .
God intentionally used ordinary food, sent through an extraordinary messenger.

POWER OF FOOD
By the power of the food supplied by God, Elijah was able to walk forty days and nights to Mount Horeb. This was a real shadow of the Lord's Supper which the Lord Jesus Christ instituted. There is power in it. That's why you need to take part in it

In the same way, God knows that the pressures from family, job, etc have made you weary..... He doesn’t want you to become disappointed. He needs to revive us in order to keep on progressing in life.
Thats why he has set the table before you. 
Rise up and eat!

AN EXAMPLE FROM DAVID
David testified of God doing same for him in the presence of his enemies. From David's story, we gather that when the enemy closed in on him and he nearly loose courage, God strengthened him at times not through prophecy nor any other means, but through food.

PERSONAL APPLICATIONS
The Lord knows you need revival. You need a renewed spiritual energy to face the new challenges in the journey of life. You need to overcome all the disappointments, discouragements, doubts and anxieties.

Today, the Lord has prepared a table before you. Throw away all the things which had been hindering you from participating in the Lord's supper. today, rise up and eat!
This is a command..

BENEFITS
When you eat from the Lord’s table, you get

🔥 A renewed mind.
🔥 A new hope
🔥A refreshed peace and joy in the Holy Spirit
🔥A renewed spirit of friendship
🔥A new hope to face the future
🔥A renewed preparedness to meet Jesus
🔥A spiritual healing from infirmities.

A WARNING
One thing you should take note is that there is more work to do AFTER eating from the LORD’S table. You can’t remain having Communion with the Lord. There must be a personal encounter for the Lord to reveal Himself to you and direct you on how to go about things and direct your affairs. Elijah’s appointment was terminated after he failed to do what was expected of him after the meals. That may form the topic of the next message.
