1.0.INTRODUCTION
Today, we are going to consider the story of Abraham from another angle. Abraham has been described as the Father of the Faiths, Father of the Faithful, the Friend of God, the Great Patriarch, and so many other accolades. It is my prayer that as we go through the beginning of his life, you will be motivated to keep on keeping on in all the good things you are doing in order to carry forward the kingdom of God.
2.0.THE JOURNEY FROM UR TO CANAAN
Terah had a very good Vision: To move out of Ur and stay permanently in Canaan. What caused him to take that decision was not made known, but events following the story do indicate that God approved his migration.
•Ur had been invaded
•It was where the Lord dispersed people with changes in language.
•It signifies confusion and destruction
•Ur means valley of fire. But geographically, the place was not in a valley but rather on a plain. It stands to reason that there may be spiritual implications.
Canaan, which was the supposed final destination of Terah, means a market place,
•Where destinies are traded
•Where good fellowship and communion abounds
•Where incubated vision could be born
•Land of fertility and prosperity
•Where diversity of talents could be developed.
Haran which was supposed to be a transit point, means a Cemetery, a place:
•Redundancy
•Where visions are killed
•Spiritual death
Unfortunately, Terah stopped at Haran and could not continue his journey. The sad end of Terah was that;
•He lived so many years there without making any impact.
•He did not only waste his years; he wasted the lives of Abram, Sarai and Lot.
•He made some people to die at the wrong place. At least, Abraham and Sarah’s inability to produce children could be attributed to their stay at Haran, a spiritual cemetery.
We don’t know what made Terah change his mind. Probably;
•He heard about wars and rumours of wars.
•The journey wasn’t smooth, the terrain wasn’t the best.
•The journey was too long for him. Probably;
•The information he received about the place as not good.
•He didn’t get good people to motivate him.
All these may sound good, but they were not good excuses for him to remain permanently at a spiritual cemetery! Jesus told us to count the cost of any project before we undertake it. So Terah started well but couldn’t end well. He died and was buried.
Had Terah moved out of Haran, the world’s history could have been very different from what it is today.
3.0.THE SECRET OF ABRAHAM’S FAME
As soon as Terah died, God called Abraham and asked him to move to a place He will be shown. But before God would show Abraham some place, Abraham began to move. This is the act which make people see him as the greatest man of faith. But Abraham has a secret we can easily gloss over..
Abraham capitalized on Terah’s complacency and gained God’s favours
•Abraham got knowledge. He knew where his father was taking them. Get knowledge. Know more about where this church is going. Let the vision of the church be at your finger tips
•Abraham made good use of information. He had the right information about where his father was going and gathered more information about the place and how to get there. Make good use of information; your prosperity, progress and success depends largely on the amount of information you have and your ability to process information to produce positive results.
•God did not speak again to Abraham until he reached Canaan. Abraham was determined to succeed. He observed his father very well and knew why Terah couldn’t reached his destination. He was determined never to be complacent. Be determined to succeed because it is possible!
•Abraham shared and motivated people to move with him. That’s why Lot, his wife Sarah and all his servants were willing to accompany him on the journey to an unknown destination. As leaders, we should share and keep your people motivated.
•Abraham moved towards the right direction. This is confirmed by God because He didn’t speak to Abraham until he reached Canaan. Move the church towards the right direction.
Abram had to take all the blessings which God had in store for Terah because, after the death of Terah, he kept on keeping on.
Don’t be like Terah who started well but could not finish.
4.0.CONCLUSION:
OTHER AREAS YOU MAY NEED TO KEEP ON KEEPING ON
•Your marriage: No turning back
•Education: You don’t need to terminate at any point
•Work: never stop working; there are so many job opportunities available. If what you are doing today breaks down, seek other opportunities
•The Christian Race: keep on pressing for the ultimate prize- Heaven
Remember that you were destined for hell fire before you were rescued and set free with the blood of Jesus. Don’t let anything stop you – keep on keeping on!
GOD BLESS YOU.
